The news is busy – we watch it at night and also I’m getting WeChat messages from colleagues in Chengdu. How to Stay Healthy During Flu Season – I forward these to my children for what it’s worth.
I bought this small notebook from the dollar store up the way and it was the closest thing to a journal I could find. The cover is dark brown cardboard with pink roses and the word HUSTLE in large golden letters. It’s small and fits my plans.
I like to end meals with something bitter or sour on my palette. Is this a metaphor for departures? The end of 2019 was pleasant and calm in Chicago and I’ll have been here for nine days by the time I leave. Who knows how long I’ll be in Montreal – depends on the car and my money. I have to stop back in Windsor to deal with property issues, taxes, renew my tenant’s lease agreement to cover all of 2020 and some of 2021.
The 2010s were the decade of China. China dominated my mind from February 2010 to November 2019. It was similar to a crazy boyfriend who tells you when to stay and when to leave. I don’t see China being very important to me personally in the 2020s. However, I will always have a memory – and fragments left behind wandering, resting, watching, waiting, in some concrete corner of a misty abandoned garden.
This big cleanse of 2019 – sold the house, fancy car was totalled, retired – moved on. Can’t believe I’m living out of a suitcase, flying across borders – life is biting my heels. Still I believe I’m on the right trajectory and feel decades younger – mentally and spiritually. My body is tired and my feet hurt most of the time. Crazy, I have lived in the same limited combination of clothes since September. It’s wild – a little lonely. Need to get back on the road soon.
New Year’s Eve was good. We managed to book a table at a Latino Fusion bistro. There was a band. Resolution for 2020: to grow despite whatever life throws my way.
faces flit away
a decade of tens fresh
eager for open years.
